Without a doubt one of the things that matters to me is taking photos. I love it – through the camera I see glimpses of the world at it’s very best.

Today I shot some photos, in preparation for a June promotion for my photo business. These two adorable children belong to my co-worker Linda and her partner Jean, and we did our photo session at a park on a quiet street in Shaw. The park had a nice little water fountain, and my favorite shots are those of the kids running through the arcs of water. Many thanks to Jean & Linda for sharing their kiddos with me!

A few tips for making great photos of kids: Be playful yourself. Talk to them about things you know they like. Let them make funny faces for the camera, and as soon as they stop, photo the grins and laughter. (This works for pictures of the Monkey too, in fact, he’s where I learned this trick.) Invest in the best camera you can (and read the manual) – the differences between a basic semi-pro camera like a Canon Rebel series and a good point-and-shoot are the differences between getting the shot you wanted and the shot 2 seconds later when the giggles are gone. Take time for good photos, sure you’ll get a good one now and then without meaning to, but putting on cute clothes and going to the park for photos will pay off. Final tip: hire me. ;-)
